The following description was submitted by the event organizer.

Join entrepreneurs, costume designers, and seamstresses at Portland Garment Factory for an afternoon of community events.

After a fire destroyed their building, Portland Garment Factory underwent a year-long metamorphosis. For this year’s theme of Regeneration, PGF is celebrating the revival of their business and their sustained efforts in rebuilding creative engagement with the Portland textile community.

Portland Garment Factory’s Vibrant Spaces event will include a tour of their new creative design and fabrication studio and a Q&A with PGF founder Britt Howard, alongside some tasty Vietnamese desserts from PGF’s lead production sewer, An. After the tour, PGF will facilitate a large-scale community weaving project that will then be donated to a local organization. Renowned artist, costume designer, and filmmaker, Fuchsia Lin, will close the event with a presentation of her incredible designs for the Oregon Ballet Theatre and a Q&A discussion.

Vibrant Spaces are the centerpiece of this year’s Portland TextileX Month community programming, weekly events that aim to unite us all together in the spirit of regeneration and community-building. Each Vibrant Space takes place in dynamically different locations in neighborhoods across our city and brings together a variety of creators, activists, leaders, and crafters of all skill sets in order to regenerate the sense of community integral to working with textile, with events ranging from free community-centered programming talks, workshops, exhibits, and food. Vibrant Spaces are made possible in part by generous funding from the American Rescue Plan and The Portland Bureau of Transportation.
