Nancy Lorenz: Works on Paper

PDX Contemporary Art is pleased to present new works on paper by New York-based artist Nancy Lorenz.
Lorenz starts every drawing with spontaneous, faint and gestural lines and imagery. Building on that initial drawing, the Artist adds metal leaf materials and raised, leafed surfaces. Drawing inspiration from the history of ink painting and time spent living in Tokyo, Lorenz creates abstracted landscapes and studies in form that pay close attention to the juxtaposition of materials, shapes and the hand of the artist.
In this exhibition, Lorenz will exhibit explorative drawings that, in essence, depict sky and water. Unfettered by specific outcomes, Lorenz employs a myriad of materials such as gilt glass, iron filings, sand and metal leaf to allow for discovery and rumination within her drawing process.
