Current science gets up close and personal at Meet A Scientist. This program, held on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, features local scientists who share their research and knowledge with you through hands-on activities and conversation. Meet A Scientist exclusively features professionals who are OMSI Science Communication Fellows.

October 12 Topics – Come meet Ben, Jose, Sebastian, Kavita and Kevan:

  • Learn how different factors in the environment may impact the risk of tick borne illnesses to humans.
  • Explore innovative products made from trees and understand what more can be done with them.
  • Help grow back a forest after a wildfire and discover how climate change may impact the process.
  • Learn how we can use carbon and nanotechnology to clean water.
  • Test if soil can (or cannot) hold enough water for plants to regrow after a wildfire.

October 26 Topics – Come meet Todd, Kavita, Ashley, Phylicia and Hannah:

  • Navigate a wide variety of factors that can impact how and what you learn about science in a science museum.
  • Learn how we can use carbon and nanotechnology to clean water.
  • Do you know what happens after you flush the toilet or put food down the drain? Come learn how wastewater is treated and how we can use it to produce renewable energy.
  • How does electricity get to your house? Build a Lego power plant while learning how to balance the power that travels between power plants and houses.
  • Learn how microbes clean water in groundwater pollution.
