Since 2009, vacant retail spaces in downtown Portland have been transformed into temporary stores where local designers and artists “set up shop” for the holiday season. These pop-up businesses showcase local design and talent, encouraging downtown shoppers to seek out unique and limited-edition gifts for their family and friends. Several participants from previous years, including Crafty Wonderland, Boys Fort and Bridge & Burn, had so much success that they opened their own brick-and-mortar locations. The 2016 pop-up shops, Faith Hats, Via Raiz, Blanchet House of Hospitality and Micro Enterprise Service of Oregon (MESO), will be open for business in downtown from Nov. 11–Dec. 24.
