We embrace the good of Portland, but at the same time, we understand that our destination’s progressive civic values may, at times, be perceived as a cause for travel concern. In light of the reaction to recent political events, how does Portland’s visitor industry address travelers’ concerns about public safety, homelessness, racial justice and protests? Preparing visitors for Portland’s progressive personality requires targeted advocacy and a proactive community strategy.

During this session, you will learn about the top issues impacting visitors’ decisions to travel to Portland and the process that Travel Portland engages in during times of uncertainty to shape the city’s narrative. This session will identify the best practices for advocacy on local and national policies impacting the travel industry; introduce strategies to align our messaging during times of crisis; and address your businesses concerns regarding recent events. At the core, we want all visitors to feel welcome and safe and to have a positive experience in Portland at your respective businesses. The more aligned our industry is on its messaging and advocacy efforts, the better the results.

Artemis Foods will provide lunch.
Brown Bag lunches are held in Travel Portland’s board room.
