Just across the Willamette River from downtown, Northeast Portland’s Lloyd neighborhood contains the Oregon Convention Center, Lloyd Center Mall and the Moda Center, home to Portland’s NBA team, the Portland Trail Blazers, and major concerts and events — it can be easily reached by public transportation, including MAX Light Rail and the Portland Streetcar.

Since it’s just across the river from downtown, Northeast Portland’s Lloyd neighborhood offers direct light rail connections to Portland International Airport, Old Town Chinatown and downtown, and easy access to the Pearl District and Eastside neighborhoods.

The Cadillac Cafe, with its vintage display Cadillac, makes for a fun breakfast or lunch stop, while Aztec Willie’s offers big burritos, tacos and sports in a family-friendly environment.

If you’re on the hunt for a local beer to pair with your lunch or dinner, Steeplejack Brewing offers a diverse taplist of house-brewed beers with a full food menu in a church-like brewery setting. Near the Oregon Convention Center, Lloyd Center Mall is in the midst of a resurgence. Long-time anchors such as Joe Brown’s Carmel Corn, Lloyd Center Ice Rink and Hot Topic have been joined by cool Portland retailers like Floating World Comics and Brickdiculous, indy Lego gallery and shop to create a unique-to-Portland mall experience worth visiting.

Beyond the mall, one of the city’s best independent bookstores, Broadway Books, offers plenty of tantalizing new and used titles, plus a wide selection of thought-provoking magazines and just-right greeting cards. Activities in Lloyd

Portland’s home for epic concerts, sporting events, and major gatherings, Northeast Portland’s Lloyd district beckons fans of all kinds from across the country, year-round. Anchoring the area is the Rose Quarter, where the Moda Center is home to the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers and also hosts major touring musical acts and national sporting events. 

Fans also fill up Spirit of 77, a home-grown sports bar where they can pre-game with free pop-a-shot games, and fuel up on pub fare with a gourmet spin. The bar’s name commemorates the year that the Blazers won their only championship. Next door, the Veteran’s Memorial Coliseum is where the Portland Winterhawks play in the Western Hockey League.

The sports bar Spirit of 77, named after the Trail Blazers’ 1977 NBA championship win, is a favorite with sports fans.

While you can’t get on the ice at the coliseum, you can lace up your skates at the nearby Lloyd Center Ice Rink, where former U.S. champion Tonya Harding learned her Salchows, loops, and Axels.

Your creative side will appreciate the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art (PICA), which hosts regular exhibitions, lectures and performances, as well as the annual Time-Based Arts Festival. The region’s largest event space, the Oregon Convention Center, also hosts regular creative conferences and exhibitions such as Rose City Comic Con and Crafty Wonderland, alongside national meetings and conventions of all sorts.

Portland's Central City

There's a lot more to Portland's urban core than Downtown, a center for retail, restaurants and cultural attractions. Goose Hollow is home to Providence Park soccer stadium, while the Pearl District is famous for upscale bars, boutiques and galleries. Old Town Chinatown offers streetwear shops, Saturday Market and Lan Su Chinese Garden and Northwest/Nob Hill boasts shopping, dining and access to Forest Park and the historic Pittock Mansion.
