Downtown Portland’s dynamic dining scene bustles with residents and tourists year-round, and it becomes particularly popular during Portland Dining Month. This March, trend-setting restaurant Clyde Common is offering up courses like a cheddar-wurst croquette with bread and butter pickles and wheat ale vinegar; grilled pork loin with spätzle, yellowfoot mushrooms and foie gras gravy; and apple-marzipan kuchen with brandy ice cream and poppy seed crunch.

Meanwhile, downtown rooftop restaurant Departure will be offering up some of its famed vegetable-forward dishes, like roasted carrot with smoked cashews, sunchoke, curry and coconut cream; sweet potato curry with peanut and coriander; and green apple sorbet with buckwheat crumble, sour coconut cream and Thai basil.

Several more longtime local favorites like Jake’s Grill and Fogo de Chao (offering hearty servings of grilled meats prepared in the tradition of Brazil) are returning to the Dining Month roster. Fine dining lovers should head to Imperial for a golden beet salad with herb yogurt, candied pistachios, sweet herbs and saba; followed by 24-hour-smoked beef brisket with cilantro puree, pickled carrots, shaved peppers and spicy fried peanuts; then a caramel roll cake with poached pears, mascarpone whip and mint.
