Ask any local for a dog-friendly drinking spot, and they’ll likely point you toward the closest Lucky Labrador Brewing Co. As its name suggests, Lucky Lab takes special joy in celebrating all things canine; the pub even hosts “Dogtoberfest,” an annual bash combining great beer and live music with Portland’s biggest dog wash. Each Lucky Lab outpost invites pups to relax on the patio as their human companions kick back with slices of barley flour pizza and foamy pints of Black Lab Stout.

Portlanders Mike and Brian McMenamin opened Oregon’s first brewpub, Hillsdale Brewery, in 1985. Since then, the McMenamins empire has expanded to include at least 24 breweries and 66 eateries, many of which welcome pets. Ask for sidewalk seating at top spots like White Eagle Saloon, Zeus Café and Bagdad Theater, or check out McMenamins’ full list of pet-friendly pubs.

The Lompoc Brewing team serves up dynamite pub fare — think Kick Axe Pale Ale and bacon-and-bleu-cheese garlic fries — at five local locations, two of which are especially canine-friendly. Hedge House on bustling S.E. Division and Fifth Quadrant on North Williams both boast expansive, pooch-friendly patios that are covered and heated, making them prime drinking destinations even in cooler months.

On the west side, a short dog walk from downtown delivers visitors to two top Oregon breweries: Central Oregon-based Deschutes Brewery and the Oregon Coast’s Rogue Distillery and Public House both accommodate furry patrons.

Many of Portland’s most exciting newer breweries also cater to four-legged visitors. StormBreaker Brewing, Ecliptic Brewing and Ex Novo Brewing in the North Mississippi/Williams neighborhood all allow dogs on their patios, as do Breakside Brewery and Migration Brewing in Northeast Portland and Base Camp Brewing and Gigantic Brewing in Southeast Portland.
