The Hyatt Regency Portland at the Oregon Convention Center, which broke ground in 2017, celebrated its grand opening Dec. 19. The 14-story, LEED-certified hotel offers 600 rooms and 39,000 square feet (3,623 sq m) of meeting venue space, along with a restaurant, lobby bar, gym and several gathering areas for guests. A project in the making for nearly three decades, the hotel is anticipated to boost annual hotel business in Portland by 70,000–110,000 new room nights, according to Metro.
“For many years, while Portland has continued to grow in its desirability for leisure and convention travel, one critical piece of infrastructure that was missing for meeting planners was a convention center hotel,” says Steve Faulstick, Travel Portland’s Chief Sales Officer. “Since starting their booking process two years ago, we’ve seen an extraordinary increase in demand and actual bookings starting in 2020 and beyond. Now that the hotel is open, we expect even more success to come from them being in the marketplace.”
