Portland Classical Chinese Garden

Lan Su Yuan, “Garden of Awakening Orchids,” is a creative collaboration with Portland’s sister city of Suzhou.

Portland’s authentic Suzhou-style walled garden is a meeting place that transcends time and borders. Located in the Old Town/Chinatown District, it is ideal for evening meetings and has space for up to 250 attendees. The garden’s serpentine walkways, bridges, open colonnades and architectural treasures encircle reflective Lake Zither. This precisely arranged landscape includes all elements of a classical Chinese garden: plants, water, rocks, buildings and poetry.

True to its centuries-old design, the garden embodies the Chinese philosophy of the duality of nature: yin and yang. When yin and yang are balanced, harmony results, creating perfect karma for your meeting.

After it closes to the public, the garden may be rented for private evening functions.

Even if you aren’t planning an event, visit often. This urban oasis is never twice the same.

“Most cherished in this mundane world is a place without traffic; truly in the midst of the city there can be mountains and forest.” – Wen Zhengming (1470-1559)
