Quintessence Language and Imagination Theatre presents Pride and Prejudice - Quintessence Language and Imagination Theatre Adapted by Connor Kerns, Jane Austen’s beloved classic has been transformed into a full vibrant stage work. The arrival of eligible young men in their neighborhood creates chaos in the lives of Mr. and Mrs. Bennet and their five daughters. Dances, drawing rooms and the English countryside provide settings for the sparkling exchanges between the opinionated Elizabeth Bennet and the proud, reserved Mr. Darcy. Hasty judgments lead to heartache and scandal, but eventually to true understanding, self-knowledge, and love.

Escher and Paradox - Portland Art Museum Printmaker Maurits Cornelis Escher (Dutch, 1898-1972) created visual puzzles that astonish with their mathematical rigor and their patent absurdity. This exhibition traces the development of the artist’s work from his early stylized depictions of landscape and architecture to his later use of repeated geometric patterns, stimulated by his visit in 1936 to the Alhambra in Granada, Spain. You'll Love It Here: The Lilac City Track Murders - New American Art Union “You’ll Love It Here: The Lilac City Track Murders ‘96-’98” will be Ty Ennis’ 4th Solo Exhibit at NAAU. His preparation for this exhibit has involved one of the most thorough examination to date of Spokane’s most infamous serial killer, Robert Lee Yates. His nearly 2 year endeavor documenting murder sites, scouring of all available literature and fleshing out the lives effected during this capsule of time in Spokane, demonstrate a type of artistic discovery that questions the role art can play in the historical record. By lending a sympathetic and informed eye to the memory of events more so remembered through hard-line fact alone, Ty builds a revisionist history using unique visual and written documents.

Vardian Vision: An Agnes Varda Retrospecive: CLÉO from 5 TO 7 - NW Film Center "In my films, I always wanted to make people see deeply. I don't want to show things, but to give people the desire to see." - Agnès Varda
"As long as I'm beautiful, I'm alive." Varda’s memorable chronicle of two hours in the life of an un-compassed pop chanteuse (Corinne Marchand) as she awaits the results of her cancer test brought a woman’s perspective to the mostly male world of the French New Wave. As she hops and shops across Paris, Cléo’s observations turn from the distractions and bright reflections of the external world to the soul within. EVENT DAY(S): 07/10/09 - 07/11/09

Vardian Vision: An Agnes Varda Retrospecive: JACQUOT DE NANTES - NW Film Center "In my films, I always wanted to make people see deeply. I don't want to show things, but to give people the desire to see." - Agnès Varda
"He had known what he called 'a happy childhood.'" Varda's warm evocation of husband Jacques Demy's youth in Nantes and passion for cinema was finished the year after his death. Using a combination of reenacted memories, on-screen reminiscences, and clips from his films (LOLA, BAY OF ANGELES, UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG, and more), interspersed with intimate close-ups of Demy’s fragile body, Varda has fashioned a tender valentine that is one of her most personal and affecting films.
