About: To commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Fall of the Berlin Wall on November 9th, 1989 the German American Society is bringing German representatives and international performing artists to Portland. German Culture Week 2009 will run from November 7th to 14th and offers thought provoking and entertaining cultural events for all interests and ages. On November 9th from 6 to 8 pm, the 20th anniversary will be celebrated at a Portland City Hall public reception that also includes the opening of the After the Wall photo exhibit. Mayor Sam Adams will welcome honored international and local representatives. Those scheduled to attend include German Consul General Peter Rothen, Honorary Consul Günther Hoffmann and Portland State University German Professor Steven Fuller, Ph.D. The After the Wall photo exhibit showcases the impact of the fall of the Berlin Wall on contemporary Germany and German culture. It is free and open to the public at Portland City Hall from November 9th to 30th. The photos were collected by the German American Society.
