This week of events celebrates small craft distilleries from across the country and the spirit of entrepreneurship. Just like the microbrew movement of the 1980's, the microspirits revolution is taking off and craft products are increasingly preferred by consumers, bartenders, and connoisseurs of high-end spirits.

The Hood River County Fruit Loop Heirloom Apple Celebration - Hood River Fruit Loop Remember when Grandma complained that “grocery store” apples today just aren’t the same as the ones that grew on her family’s backyard tree? She’s right. The Fruit Loop’s Heirloom Apple Celebration honors the “heirloom” or “classic” apples that have all but disappeared from commercial orchards producing large volumes of fruit that must store and travel well. Apple varieties must have existed 100 or more years to be considered heirlooms. Discover the wide range of flavors, colors, shapes and textures of more than 20 kinds of heirloom apples. Enjoy fresh-pressed apple cider, hard apple cider, apple cider donuts, desserts made with apples or cider, and much more. EVENT DAY(S): 10/23/10 - 10/24/10

Oregon Zoo Summer Concerts: Chris Isaak - Oregon Zoo After devoting much of the past decade to acting, Chris Isaak returned to music in a big way last spring. "Mr. Lucky" was the singer's first studio release in seven years, and it's apparent that he hasn't missed a beat since "Wicked Game," his gorgeous Top 10 hit from 1990. Isaak's rich voice and soulful style constantly draw comparisons to Elvis and Roy Orbison, and rightly so — it's hard to name another singer who can croon like that. EVENT DAY(S): 08/14/10

Long Day's Journey Into Night - Artists Repertory Theatre One of the most powerful and gut‐wrenching dramas in American literature, Long Day's Journey Into Night is Eugene O'Neill's masterpiece. The autobiographical story is told with such searing honesty that he stipulated it was not to be published or produced until 25 years after his death. Audiences will be enraptured by the emotional complexity of the Tyrone family — gripped by addiction, shattered by the past, and paralyzed by the prospect of the future. Museum of Contemporary Craft presents Ai Weiwei: Dropping the Urn (Ceramic Works, 5000 BCE - 2010 CE) - Museum of Contemporary Craft Featuring a selection of ceramic works and photographs ranging from 1993 to the present, Ai Weiwei: Dropping the Urn will offer viewers a focused look at Ai's iconoclastic appropriations of historic clay pots and porcelain vases. Ai Weiwei: Dropping the Urn will include examples of Ai's unprecedented use of Neolithic and Han dynasty vessels as "readymades" that the artist subjects to a variety of procedures. These include marking 2000-year-old clay urns with hand-painted inscriptions of the "Coca-Cola" logo, dipping them into vats of industrial paint, smashing them on the ground in performances for the camera, and grinding the vessels into powder. Museum of Contemporary Craft presents Land Art: David Shaner - Museum of Contemporary Craft Through selected works by David Shaner, this exhibition examines connections between currently renewed interest in Land Art and contemporary ceramics. Unlike Land Art works that offer grand, sweeping gestures within the landscape, Shaner offers a quiet, contemplative and symbiotic relationship between land and life, art and the home. Drawn from works in both the Shaner family’s and the Museum’s collections, this exhibition offers work from 1964 to the 1990s as a lens to an alternative relationship between land and art.
