Portland Women's Film Festival (POW Fest)

May 15-18

Sour Apple Productions, in partnership with Film Action Oregon, presents the inaugural Portland Women’s Film Festival (POW Fest), May 15-18, at the historic Hollywood Theatre.

POW Fest will present select women-made movies, moderated filmmaker panels and an expo of women-owned and served businesses, as well as a day-long screenwriting workshop. The festival kicks off on May 15 with a screening of guest of honor Allison Anders’ “Gas Food Lodging,” followed by a Q&A session with Anders, and an opening-night party at the Ace Hotel. QDoc: Portland Queer Documentary Film Festival

QDoc is the first festival of its kind in the United States, and only the second in the world devoted exclusively to documentaries with a queer content. The documentary form is a vital and energetic construct for deeply exploring and celebrating contemporary culture in an entertaining and accessible manner. The Original Chicano

While in Portland, artist Dan Guerrero will screen the award-winning documentary film he produced and wrote with Nancy De Los Santos about his late father, legendary Chicano music icon Lalo Guerrero, which aired on PBS television and has been shown at various film festivals around the world. The film screening is free and open to the public. Hosted by Portland Latino Gay Pride 2008.
